A Youngtown AC install shop, built around right-sizing.
A Youngtown AC install shop run by a career tradesman who got tired of seeing oversized systems sold into homes that did not need them. Manual J first, equipment recommendation second, honest written quote third.
How Maverick got built
Maverick Climate Co. was founded in 2014 by a career HVAC tradesman who had spent the early 2000s running install crews for three different Phoenix-area shops. He had seen what bad installs look like up close. Systems sized by square footage instead of by load calculation. Returns sized too small for the new equipment. Refrigerant charged by gauge pressure instead of by subcooling. Customers paying for premium equipment that never ran at its rated efficiency because the install was sloppy.
The decision to start Maverick came from one specific summer week in 2013. He ran service calls on three different homes in the same Sun City neighborhood where the same shop had installed the same oversized 5-ton system into three different homes that did not need 5 tons. All three systems were short-cycling. All three homeowners were complaining about humidity. All three were inside the manufacturer warranty and could not understand why their brand-new equipment was performing worse than the unit it replaced. The shop had not run a single load calculation on any of the three jobs.
Maverick was built to do it the other way around. Heat-load calculation first. Equipment recommendation second. Honest written quote third. Then a clean, code-compliant install with the start-up paperwork actually filled out. The team has grown to six to ten technicians over the years, all locally trained, all paid hourly rather than on commission to keep the recommendation honest.
What we believe
Four principles that show up in how we run every install.
Sizing comes before equipment selection
Every install gets a Manual J load calculation. The calc tells us the right system tonnage for the home. The equipment recommendation follows the calc, not the other way around. Right-sized systems run quieter, last longer, and dehumidify better than oversized ones.
Written everything
Written estimates. Written start-up sheets. Written warranties. Written equipment lists at close-out. If we said it, it should be on paper. That way the homeowner has a record and the next service tech has a baseline.
Hourly pay, not commission
Our techs are paid hourly. They are not on commission and they are not paid spiffs by manufacturers. The equipment they recommend is the equipment that fits the home. That alignment matters and it is rare in the industry.
Local crew, local knowledge
Our installers live in the West Valley. They know what the housing stock looks like, what the local inspectors expect on permit work, and what a Youngtown home built in 1962 needs that a Peoria home built in 2018 does not.
About the team
The Maverick crew runs between six and ten technicians at any given time. Everyone on the install side holds at minimum EPA Section 608 universal certification and has been trained on Manual J load calculation. New techs spend their first 90 days running alongside a senior installer before they are dispatched solo. We hire for trade discipline first and personality second, but the truth is the personality matters too. The homeowner who is letting a crew into their home for two days deserves a clean, respectful presence on the job.
We do not name specific individuals on the site, partly because crew composition rotates as the business grows and partly because we would rather you know what to expect from any tech who shows up rather than feel locked into one person. The dispatch team texts you the lead tech's name and phone number when they are on the way.
How we work
Most of our work starts with a phone call to the dispatch line, which routes through our Primary Office partner Grand Canyon Home Services. From there an estimator is sent to the property for the in-home assessment. The assessment is free and is not high-pressure. The estimator measures the home, looks at the existing equipment and ductwork, and asks about the comfort issues that prompted the call. The visit takes about an hour.
Within 24 to 48 hours of the in-home visit, you get a written proposal by email with two or three equipment options laid out side by side. The proposal shows the SEER2 rating, the warranty terms, and both the cash price and the financed monthly payment for each option. We walk you through the trade-offs by phone if you want. Once you pick an option, we schedule the install, usually inside a week. Install day, commissioning, and warranty registration follow the steps documented on our AC Installation page.
